Full Description
PRN 40670 now incorporating now deleted prn 40671
Beckfield is an extinct hamlet in the parish of Binbrook. The site shows traces of foundations in the southern half of a grass close. The site is bounded to the south and east by the Binbrook-Kirmond Le Mire road, and on the west by the stream which divided the two parishes of Binbrook and Kirmond Le Mire. The hamlet was close to the latter village. In 1316 Bynbroc cum Beckefield was a villata and was mentioned again in 1334. {1}{8}
Slight traces on aerial photographs. The earthworks consist of a terraced road, two distinct steadings and a possible third (PRN40680 for the road). {8}
Pottery was found on this site. {7}
One medieval jug handle and two medieval green glazed sherds were recovered from the site of the deserted medieval village, these were found during ploughing. {6}
