Full Description

SERIES OF RECTANGULAR MOUNDS IN A FIELD BEHIND SOME COTTAGES. STANDS ON WHAT WAS ONCE THE ROAD BETWEEN SOUTH WILLINGHAM AND HAINTON. 'SAXON REMAINS' ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN FOUND IN THE NEXT FIELD, BUT NO CONFIRMATION OTHER THAN VERBAL RUMOUR. ANY UNUSUAL STONE TURNED UP BY THE PLOUGH IS EITHER 'ROMAN' OR 'SAXON'. ANOTHER PERSISTENT TRADITION IS THAT OLIVER CROMWELL ONCE STAYED IN THE VILLAGE. NOBODY KNOWS WHY.{1}
