The placename 'Beacon Hill' is depicted on the 1st edition 6 inch Ordnance Survey map, suggesting the location of a former beacon. {1}
The beacon was possibly on the site of Ranby Hoe (see PRN 40391), although the Ordnance Survey records the highest point in the immediate vicinity at this point. {2}
