Full Description

The Old Free Grammar School which was founded in 1632, then rebuilt in 1775. The building was still utilised as a school in c.1980. {1} The Old Grammar School is a Grade II listed building, which is now in use as a private residence. It was built in the late 18th century, and is constructed of red brick, under a pantile roof with a coped gable to the left, decorated eaves, gable stacks and a central metal funnel. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate entry in the National Heritage List for England. {2} White's 1856 Trade Directory States that the school ws converted into a Girls' National School in the early 19th century. {3}
