Full Description

Polished stone axe-head found in Beck Field, now in the City and County Museum, Lincoln accession no.93.35. {1} 'This was found by a pupil of Hatton School, in September 1935, and presented to the City and County Museum. The finder confirmed the published findspot.{2} This axehead is a group VI, banded, axehead {3} Two polished stone axeheads from Hatton were entered into the ordnance survey records in 1962 using information provided by staff at City and County Museum, Lincoln (OS cards TF17NE:7 and TF17NE:8). Later additions to these ordnance survey records in 1964 confused these two axeheads probably because of a grid reference error in the original entry. By reference back to the original entries in the City and County Museum Accessions’ Register it has been possible to disentangle these two axeheads and this current record is a corrected version of the axehead record TF17NE:7. See also PRN40300 for the second axehead. {4}
