Protected Status/Designation

Full Description

Buckland, an extinct hamlet in Woodhall, probably comprising the north-east part of the parish, is mentioned in Domesday Book, the Lay Subsidy (1115-18) and in parish registers as late as 1580-1600. (see aerial photographs for earthworks, probably constituting a hamlet site, at area TF 213 676). The earthworks visible on the aerial photographs have been ploughed out. Surface building debris in the area, coupled with the topographical situation suggest this as the site of Buckland. {1} A visit to the site was undertaken on 28/03/06 and the site was under cultivation. The remains of earthworks could still be seen, and medieval pottery including green glaze, as well as building material were observed. {5}
