Full Description

An Anglo-Saxon or Danish sword inscribed with Anglo-Saxon characters. Also a dagger with a wooden handle and an iron spearhead. Found in the river at Kirkstead Wath in 1788. {1}{2}{3} The City and County Museum accession book describes the sword as being marked +BENVENUTUS+ on one side and +ME FECIT+ on the other.{4}
