Summary

QUARRY AT MANOR CLOSE, BASTON

Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

PRN 34990 An archaeological evaluation on land at Manor Close found that any significant archaeological remains had been removed by a later gravel quarry. The quarry had been backfilled but was undated.{1}{2} During a watching brief at TF 1171 1430 a series of rectangular and oval pits were recorded, although undated these are though to be extraction pits associated with a gravel quarry. Some artefactual evidence was recorded in the form of some animal remains and a 16th -17th Bourne D pottery sherd, these though are thought to have been deposited through manuring rather than indicating domestic occupation.{3}{4}
