Full Description

At the south western corner of Belton Park, close to the site of Towthorpe deserted medieval village are some earthworks and ridge and furrow that are still visible. The finds were made by a local amateur who showed them to a pottery specialist, Jane Young. The finds include a number of different pottery wares: small sherds of sandstone tempered ware, sandstone and greensand tempered, charnwood, chaff tempered, slag tempered, Torksey, late Saxon shell, Lincolnshire fine shell, Stamford wares (early and late), Nottingham and Nottingham splash ware. Also one sherd of Langwehe/Raeren ware (late German stoneware) was also found. {1}
