Full Description
During a site visit to the woods it was recorded that external banks and ditches around the wood tend to be intermittant or non-existant. There is a bank with a stream on the eastern side running along the parish boundary, this turns into the wood, becoming possibly later on part of an anti-highwayman trench. A bank and ditch define an east-west valley which lies to the south. {1}
Woodland is mentioned as part of the land holdings in Colsterworth in the Domesday Book. {2}
An area of woodland (all of which is classified as plantation) included in the Nature Conservancy Council's 'Inventory of Ancient Woodland'. Ancient woodland status considered to be probable. {3}
