Full Description

Various sherds from a Romano-British vessel were found in March 1984, during the digging of a new drainage trench in this field to the north of Bourne. The sherds were found with small fragments of burnt human bone, and are thought to represent the remains of a probable cremation urn, dating to the 2nd century AD. The vessel was almost complete, being a greyware jar roughly 20cm in height with a narrow neck and everted rim. It was made from a well-fired, sandy grey fabric with fine black grits, although was very abraded. Fragments of a second vessel were also identified in an area approximately 15m to the east of the first vessel findspot. No uhman remains were found in association with this second vessel, however. {1}{2}{3}
