Full Description
CAPT. CRAGG OF THREEKINGHAM TELLS ME THAT A TENANT OF HIS WAS DRIVING A DRAIN THROUGH NIGHTINGALE PLANTATION WHEN HE ENCOUNTERED ROMAN BRICKS, TILES AND POTTERY. {2}
ROMAN BRICKS, TILES AND POTTERY WERE FOUND WHEN A TENANT OF CAPTAIN CRAGG OF THREEKINGHAM WAS DRIVING A DRAIN THROUGH NIGHTINGALE PLANTATION, HEYDOUR IN THE AREA TF01123767. ROMAN TESSERAE HAVE BEEN PLOUGHED UP 'IN THE PAST' AT HEYDOUR SOUTHINGS (TF017378 APPROX.). IN 1965 SEAMAN REPORTED THAT THE SITES COULD NOT BE LOCATED. CAPTAIN CRAGG WAS DEAD AND HIS SON LIVING IN DEVON; THE TENANT COULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED. {1}
THIS MAY BE THE SITE OF A VILLA - 'TESSERAE...AT HAYDOR SOUTHINGS'. {3}{4}
