Full Description

PRN 33876 [This record contains information formerly in records 36578 and 36270 which have now been removed from the HER.] There is a heavy scatter of building debris, bricks, tiles, green glazed pottery and bones here. Earthworks visible on aerial photographs have been ploughed.{1} Building debris, including 13th century roofing tiles and medieval pottery was found in 1953 in Monastery Field. {2} Cropmarks indicative of building foundations are visible on aerial photographs in the southern half of field. Other marks, probably representing associated enclosures and fields extend over large area centred at SK 964 268. The names of five of the fields in the area include the element grange, this and the name Monastery Field indicate a possible monastic grange here. {1}{2}{3}{4} Earthwork and cropmark buildings and enclosures were recorded by the National Mapping Programme. {6}
