Full Description

A palstave (bronze axehead) in Grantham Museum is labelled Old Somerby. {1}{2} A haft-flanged bronze axe of middle Bronze Age date with convex flanges from Old Lodge Farm, Old Somerby, found in 1924. {4} The six figure grid reference provided by the museum records is directly over the name 'Old Somerby' on the 1905 Ordnance Survey map. Old Lodge Farm is not marked on the map although there is a farm nearby. P. Davey gives the location as about SK 9633. The location of this find should be treated with some circumspection. {5}
