Full Description

A middle Bronze Age looped palstave found to the west of Ropsley, in Ordnance Survey Field 132. The loop is unperforated, although the blade appears to be finished. The artefact was found in 1976. The old museum records give a grid reference of SK 987 335 (centre) which is in the middle of OS field 232 and is almost certainly an error. The centre of OS field 132 at SK 9813 3392 has been used a the location of this findspot. {1}{2} The error in the museum records caused T. Lane to create an additional Bronze Age palstave record in his archaeological study of the parish with one at each of the two grid references above. He also published a drawing of this palstave. {3}
