Full Description
A Romano-British relief found in about 1923 in Hall Field, Keisby, preserved in the east wall of the south aisle of Lenton Church. It is of local limestone and similar to Ancaster and Wilsford stones. It shows a male figure with an altar at his left side. In the field is a large rectangular ditched earthwork. The farmer said that an area at the south-east corner of the field was traditionally said to be a chapel site. A fragment of mortarium rim was picked up close to this spot (the only Roman pottery found). {1}{2}{3}
The relief is no longer (August 2012) at Lenton Church. It has since been returned to the landowner and is now incorporated in the north facing wall of the property located at TF 03818 28558. {5}
