Full Description

Much C12-13 pottery on surface, also building stone. Med buildings associated with ditched enclosures to the NW,{1}{2}{6} Hall Close shown at TF037289 on tithe, 1848. APs show a complex of earthworks in Hall Close & as far W as TF3462870. Earthworks constitute desertion & site of associated Hall. Building debris in plough on either side of 'main street' marks the sites of buildings & small enclosures visible on APs. Resurveyed 1:2500. {2}{3}{4} DURING A WATCHING BRIEF ON A PIPELINE DISCUSSIONS WITH THE LOCAL FARMER REVEALED THAT THE HOLLOW WAYS AT EACH END OF THE ROAD THROUGH KEISBY ARE THE RESULT OF ROAD WIDENING IN THE EARLY 1920'S. THE LAND WAS GIVEN TO THE COUNCIL TO CARRY OUT THIS WORK PROVIDED THAT THEY FENCED THE EDGES, AND THE ORIGINAL IRON FENCING REMAINS THROUGH MUCH OF THE SETTLEMENT. HOLLOW WAYS PRESUMABLY EXISTED BEFORE THE WIDENING BUT ANY DEPOSITS WHICH RELATED TO THESE WERE REMOVED DURING THE DIGGING OUT. {5}{7}
