Full Description

Cremated human remains were found with fragments from a pottery urn in a layer of ash, disturbed when a grave was dug in the old part of Edenham churchyard in 1938-9. The ash layer was roughly 3ft 4" down from the surface, and measured 3-4" thick in the centre to 1" at each end. The urn was thought to be of probable late 2nd to early 3rd century date, and was from a vessel of rather wide diameter with a red and black core. {1}{2}{3}{4}
