Full Description
A bronze statuette of a Roman Mercury was found in 1957, on land to the north-west of Carlby. The object stood 8.7cm high, and was thought to be of probable 2nd century date and of Gaulish manufacture. The statuette was retained by the finder, Richard Spencer (the son of the farmer who owned the land), who indicated the findspot as TF 0453 1440. {1}{2}{3}{4}
