Full Description

IN 1962 AT TF105091 TWENTY FIVE PITS, APPARENTLY THE NORTHWARD CONTINUATION OF DOUBLE PIT ALIGNMENT, WERE EXAMINED. THE APPARENT LACK OF FUNCTION AND OCCUPATION MATERIALS BEARS OUT THE THESIS OF LAND BOUNDARIES. A NEARBY ISOLATED PIT CONTAINED SAXON MATERIAL (SEE PRN 33487). IN 1965 HARPER REPORTS SIMPSON AS COMENTING 'THE PIT ALIGNMENT MENTIONED HAS BEEN EXAMINED FROM TF10470900 TO TF10580879'. {1} THIS HAS CAUSED A LOT OF CONFUSION OVER THE LOCATION OF THE EXCAVATED PART OF THE PIT ALIGNMENT. ALL THE EARLIER SOURCES ARE QUITE CONSISTENT AND CLEAR IN LOCATING THIS TO THE NORTH OF STAMFORD ROAD (PRN 33484),SEE {3}{4}. PERHAPS SIMPSON OR HARPER IS MISTAKEN?
