Full Description
The Manor House, West Deeping, is a two-storey rubble house with stone windows, well restored and added to in the same style. Dated 1634. It is described as having been very large and with a moat said in c.1814 to be nearly perfect. Thomas Holland, Earl of Kent, was Lord of the Manor in 1388. The west end of the Manor House is well restored original with a plaque '1634', but the building has doubled in size in the 20th century. The 'moats' still exist but are not moats as such, only ornamental ponds with vertical sides. The whole area has been redesigned using the old waterways in part. {1}
The Manor House in style belongs rather to Northamptonshire across the river. It is H-shaped and dated 1634. The west front is the only one that has escaped heavy restoration. It has the usual gables over the projecting wings, mullioned windows, a central two-storey porch, also gabled, and a doorway with a flattened head. At the rear, a tall three-storey store or dovecote. {2}{3}{4}
