PRN 33477 THE MANOR HOUSE, WEST DEEPING, IS A TWO-STOREY RUBBLE HOUSE WITH STONE WINDOWS, WELL RESTORED AND ADDED TO IN THE SAME STYLE. DATED 1634. IT IS DESCRIBED AS HAVING BEEN VERY LARGE AND WITH A MOAT SAID IN c1814 TO BE NEARLY PERFECT. THOMAS HOLLAND, EARL OF KENT, WAS LORD OF THE MANOR IN 1388. THE WEST END OF THE MANOR HOUSE IS WELL RESTORED ORIGINAL WITH A PLAQUE 1634, BUT THE BUILDING HAS DOUBLED IN SIZE THIS CENTURY. THE 'MOATS' STILL EXIST BUT ARE NOT MOATS AS SUCH, ONLY ORNAMENTAL PONDS WITH VERTICAL SIDES. THE WHOLE AREA HAS BEEN RE-DESIGNED USING THE OLD WATERWAYS IN PART. {1} THE MANOR HOUSE IN STYLE BELONGS RATHER TO NORTHANTS ACROSS THE RIVER.IT IS H-SHAPED AND DATED 1634. THE WEST FRONT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS ESCAPED HEAVY RESTORATION. IT HAS THE USUAL GABLES OVER THE PROJECTING WINGS, MULLIONED WINDOWS, A CENTRAL TWO-STOREY PORCH, ALSO GABLED, AND A DOORWAY WITH A FLATTENED HEAD. AT THE REAR, A TALL THREE-STOREY STORE OR DOVECOTE. {4}~ For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {5} Manor House, West Deeping. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard with L-plan range plus detached buildings to the third side of the yard. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within a Church and/or Manor farm group. Large modern sheds are located to the side of the site. {6}
