Full Description

Finds from the new police station to the rear of the library, including Developed and Undeveloped Stamford Ware including a pitcher spout, also a Bourne Ware body sherd. {1} At the rear of the library premises in Market Deeping, trenches were cut by mechanical means for the footings of the new police station. Unfortunately no exploratory work could be done owing to building operations being ready for the arrival of concrete. Pottery was taken from one of the larger trenches and a section drawn. Pottery consisted of: one body sherd of Developed Stamford Ware with lustrous green glaze and an off-white fabric, very badly worn; one body sherd of Bourne Ware; one Stamford Ware pitcher spout with pale green glaze in patches on a pinkish background and a good quality off-white fabric; one rim with a mottled light yellow glaze (interior and exterior surfaces) on a white fabric - possibly Stamford Ware; three sherds of Undeveloped Stamford Ware, very badly worn, with the usual white fabric and some blackening to the exterior. {2}
