PRN33218 THE FOUNDATIONS OF A BUILDING AND ABOUT 12 FEET OF BLACK MUD, OAK POSTS, STONES AND BRICKS, GLAZED ROMAN TILE FRAGMENT, AND SOME ROMAN POTTERY, WERE DISCOVERED, AFTER 2 DAYS' WORK, WHEN AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO FIND A SUBTERRANEAN PASSAGE SUPPOSED TO RUN BETWEEN THE CASTLE AND THE ABBEY AT BOURNE. {1}{2} FOUNDATIONS OF ROMAN OR MORE PROBABLY MEDIEVAL BUILDING WITH TILES AND POTTERY. {3} During trial trenching at TF 0929 1999 a possible Roman ditch was located, with a sherd of 3rd century greyware being recovered from it.{4}{5}
