Full Description

PRN 33009 A slab of carved stone, used as the lintel of the interior west window of the south aisle, and previously identified as an Anglo-Saxon cross shaft. This has since been refuted by Everson and Stocker, who have dated the slab to the early- or mid-12th century. The slab is undecorated on at least one broad face, and decorated on at least one narrow face, with a roundel defined by a single moulding containing a sexfoil, and thus is believed to be an item of furniture, possibly an altar stone. See also PRN 30099.{1}
