Full Description
Site of new International Stores. Early Stamford ware, bone and shell was found in the trenches. Later levels had been destroyed, but disturbed late medieval pottery was revealed. A vaulted cesspit on another part of site was also found. The walls were two feet high with a vaulted roof. It was filled in in the 16th century. Another 19th century cesspit was also found. {1}
A second cesspit has been destroyed in the 19th century. Both had been built over a natural limestone cavity. {2}
