PRN 30681 LARGE STONE COFFIN FOUND 'NEAR STAMFORD' WHEN PLOUGHING. CONTAINED 2 SKELETONS AND THERE WERE THE REMAINS OF A THIRD OUTSIDE WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN WITHIN A WOODEN COFFIN. FRAGMENTS OF ABOUT A DOZEN SMALL VESSELS WITH A GLASS LACHRYMATORY WERE FOUND IN THE COFFIN. THE POTTERY APPEARED TO BE CASTOR WARE. THE SITE OF THE FINDS IS ABOUT HALF A MILE FROM ERMINE STREET. {1}{2} MRS GILCHRIST'S FARM FROM WHICH A COFFIN WAS REMOVED. A BODY LAY TO THE N OF AND PARALLEL TO THE COFFIN. THE COFFIN LAY E-W WITH THE SKULL AT THE W END. A SMALLER SKULL LAY AT THE E END. DISCUSSION OF FINDS INCLUDING A BONE PILL THAT WENT TO 'STAMFORD INSTITUTE MUSEUM'. {3}
