Full Description

'The mint, well established in the reign of King Edgar had 52 moneyers & ranked 5th in kingdom....The exact position has not been established.{1} Suggested that lay in Stamford Baron on S side of river In C11 continued as moneyer for Abbot of Peterboro' who alternate the mint between the towns of Stamford & Peterboro. 1145 document shows abbot still held right. But either removed or surrendered in or before the reign of King John. {3}
