Full Description

Remains of house of Holy Sepulchre. An establishment including a hospital. Founded before 1189 existed until after 1227. Extant remains of fabric can be identified, they are mainly restored & incorporated into wallings of George Hotel. {1}{2}{3}{4} The chapel of St Mary Magdalen (30619) supposedly attached. {5} During archaeological monitoring and recording at 66 High Street in October 2010, dumped layers which contained disturbed human remains and residual medieval finds including roof tile and pottery were found. These remains are probably evidence of disturbance of the cemetery associated with the medieval hospital. {6}{7}
