Full Description

[See PRN 30613 for general record for Carmelite Friary.] The gate is of late 14th century, and forms the only upstanding remains of the Friary. {1} Only the outer wall survives. {2} The outer wall of the gatehouse to Whitefriars. It now forms the entrance to the Infirmary. It is a scheduled monument. The structure is built into the back in the same style. {3} A watching brief was undertaken during excavations for drainage and structural investigations. No significant information relating to possible medieval use of the site was revealed, though information regarding the construction of the 19th century porter's house was recorded. {4}{5}
