Full Description

A scatter of 13th to 14th century medieval pottery has been found in the rear garden of 15 St Catherine's Road. The sherds were found in association with a section of clay-bonded stone wall, with some burnt stone and areas identified. The sherds appeared to be from two separate vessels, one of which was a Nottingham ware jug of sandy/buff coloured hard fabric with sparse green glaze, whilst the other was a probable jug in a soft, light brown fabric. The section of wall was thought to have formed part of a larger medieval building. It was speculated that a large mound located in a playing field to the south of the site may be the remains of a medieval chantry chapel, although this could not be confirmed, and the exact lcoation of the mound is not recorded. {1}{2}
