Full Description

30507 It was suggested by Canon Foster that Walton Farm is site of Walton DMV. No surface remains to be seen. {1}{2} The community of Walton is included with Nongetune, which is identifiable with Spitelgate. In 1316, 1327 and 1333 Houton, Walton and Spitelgate constitute a villata and the three places are often named together in other documents. They formed a lordship or manor at the time of enclosure. It appears to be first documented in the the twelfth century, and is not mentioned in documents after the mid fourteenth century. {3}{4} The name is derived from the Old English 'walh', meaning Welshman. This must have been an isolated group of Welshmen, identifiable as such, probably as late as the seventh century. {5}
