Full Description

A medieval cross is believed to have been located at St Peter's Hill. The cross was destroyed in the 17th century, and was traditionally thought to have been a Queen Eleanor Cross. Peterborough Abbey held lands on one side of St Peter's Hill, however, and erected crosses to mark the boundaries of their land. It is quite possible that the cross was here before Eleanor's time. {1}{2}{3}{4} The cross was located near the statue of Sir Isaac Newton (see PRN 38817), outside the town hall. It was demolished in 1645. {5}
