Full Description
An old man of Ancaster told Leland that at Harrowby a ploughman took up a stone and found another underneath it. Within this stone was a square hole of Roman coins. {1}{2}{3}
'An old man of Ancaster told me that by Ureby, or Roseby, a plough-man toke up a stone, and found another stone under it, wherein was a square hole having Romaine quoin in it.'
'Roseby' is presumably Rauceby, to the north-east of Ancaster. 'Ureby' may be Ewerby, which is farther to the north-east of Ancaster. The exact findspot remains unknown. {4}
