Full Description
PRN 30460
To the south of modern farmhouse there is a partially filled pond on the course of the stream. At its east extremity there is a dam which formerly had a sluice to regulate its level.{1}
DURING AN EVALUATION ON LAND SOUTH OF MANOR FARM A POND OR SIMILAR WATER- HOLDING FEATURE WAS REVEALED AND HAD BEEN CUT INTO THE NATURAL GEOLOGICAL DEPOSITS TO A DEPTH OF C.2.5M. HISTORICAL EVIDENCE AND THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THESE REMAINS TO THE EARTHWORK MENTIONED ABOVE SUGGESTS THAT THIS FEATURE IS A FISHPOND OR MILLPOND OF MEDIEVAL DATE. HOWEVER, NO DATEABLE OR FUNCTIONAL EVIDENCE WAS RECOVERED. THE POND WAS INFILLED OVER THE LAST CENTURY. {2}
