Full Description
Substantial earthworks and buried walls in two fields north-east of Manor Farm were inspected and some excavation carried out from 1975 to 1980 by John Dable. It was suggested that the remains might be part of a lost village called Easthorpe because of the name Easthorpe Road that is nearby. The excavations revealed the foundations of several buildings to the east of Manor Farm. The suggested date of use of the site, based on the pottery recovered, is from the 10th century to the 15th century. Interpreted as a former medieval farmstead, the remains included stone foundations including those of a possible bakehouse along with evidence for a crew yard/midden. Several of the walls in the complex appear to have been robbed out for their stone.{1}{2}{3}{4}
