Full Description

A 17th century foundation by Alice Brownlow, restored in fascimile in C19. Single storey coursed stone, slate roof. Left and right projecting wings with gabled ends, with moulded stone stacks and ball finials. Arcaded stone screen with central entrance encloses a rectangular forecourt. Gable ends dated 1659 and 1872. {1}{2} A small group of buildings which are mostly single storey or with attics and are modest in scale. {3} The Bede Houses are Grade II listed almshouses. The attached screen wall is also included in the Listed Building Description. The almshouses are dated 1659, but were raised and remodelled in 1827 and underwent internal alterations in c.1935. {4}
