Full Description

ROMAN POTTERY HAS BEEN PICKED UP IN THE FIELD KNOWN AS 'THE GINCHESTER' AND WAS FOUND DURING DRAINAGE WORK IN 1932. FIELDWALKING IN THE LATE 1960s PRODUCED FURTHER FINDS, INCLUDING ROOFING TILES AND STONE ON A SLIGHTLY ELEVATED AREA. {1}{2}{3}{4} AN UNDATED AP SHOWS AN IRREGULAR ELONGATED AREA OF CROPMARKS WHICH EXTENDS INTO THE ADJACENT FIELDS AND CONSISTS OF A COMPLEX OF FAIRLY REGULAR SQUARE AND RECTANGULAR DITCHED ENCLOSURES MANY WITH INTERNAL SUB-DIVISIONS, POSSIBLE STRUCTURES AND PITS. POSSIBLY REPRESENTS A SMALL ROMANO-BRITISH SETTLEMENT OR LARGE FARMSTEAD. {6} Roman cropmark enclosures. {7}
