Full Description

POTTERY SHERDS WERE FOUND IN THE SIDE OF A DITCH RECENTLY CUT INTO THE SANDY SOIL ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE STRAIGHTENED PART OF THE A153, NEARLY OPPOSITE HONINGTON HOUSE. THESE INCLUDED A COLOUR-COATED BASE, A GREY WARE HANDLE, ROUGH ROULETTED GREY WARE, AND PART OF THE BASE OF A DISH. A LARGE FRAGMENT OF TILE, PROBABLY A TEGULA, WAS ALSO FOUND. THERE APPEARED TO BE A CHANGE IN THE COLOUR OF THE SOIL AT A DEPTH OF 2-3 FEET. HERE IT BECAME DARKER, AND MORE HARD PACKED.
