Full Description
The Newton Sandpit was opened in about 1916 and finds have been made since then and also observations from 1937 onwards. Prehistoric finds include Mesolithic flints, an unfinished macehead, Bronze Age flints and pottery including beaker sherds, three food vessels, seven overhanging rim urns, an incense cup and a possible awl. The finds are now in Grantham Museum.{1}{2}{3}{4}
The nature of the finds would perhaps indicate the presence of a Bronze Age cremation cemetery. {7}
