Full Description

Scatters of medieval artefacts and possible structures, found near to Caythorpe Hall, including: A pottery scatter including 3 sherds of Stamford ware and other pottery of mostly 13th century date, found to the east of Caythorpe Hall (SK 940 490). {1} A probable 14th century whetstone with a bronze attachment for suspension, found in 1971 (SK94034860). {2}{3} A possible medieval oven was found when ploughing. It was circular with burnt limestone blocks and surrounded with clay. Stamford ware and a possible late Saxon sherd were associated. {4}
