Full Description

30178 'Windmill (disused)' on south side of the road to the south of Foston.{1} The windmill to the south of Foston was a large post mill with 'midland;' roundhouse, which was built in around 1700 and moved c.1760. It ceased work in 1928 and was demolished in 1966. {2} The mill at Foston was built in c.1700 and was still working in 1923, although by 1951 it was derelict. A round house was added when the mill was moved in 1730. If this is so, then it is one of the oldest dated round houses standing. The mill was erected in Mullins Field in about 1700 and was moved about a quarter of a mile to its present location in about 1760. Foston mill had two spring sails and two half common and half spring sails, made in 1913. These blew down in 1929. The wheel was nine feet in diameter. {3}
