In this general area various finds of Roman date have been made. These include greyware, colour coated ware and calcite gritted pottery. Finds also include tile and stone and a quern stone fragment. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7} The corner of a field adjacent to a green lane produced a large amount of Romano-British pottery. The pottery was mostly grey ware though a small percentage of colour-coated ware was also found. This site is on a north-facing slope overlooking the Trent Valley. Approximately 60m to the south, on the brow of the hill, a spread of stone, some dressed, proved to be the centre of another pottery spread. The pottery here was of a similar type and quantity as the original spread. Parts of two querns lay on the surface here, one sandstone, the other millstone grit. A subsequent visit to the area revealed a third pottery spread approximately 60m east of site 2. This area also produced further fragments of millstone grit. Between areas 1 and 2, a Roman tile and half a bronze bracelet was discovered on the surface. The site does not appear in the Kings School Archaeological Society survey of the parish. At SK 892 374 Romano-British flagon and mortar, colour-coated ware, clacite-gritted ware and dark grey sandy ware. {8}
