Full Description

Shillingthorpe (Scheldingthorpe, Shillyngthorp) mentioned in early 14th century is lost hamlet in parish of Braceborough. Returned about 1565 as hamlet containing only one family.{1}{2} There are no surface indications of this hamlet.{1} A network of sunken roads with a series of rectangular house platforms. Site under grass 1966.{3}{4}{5} Aerial photograph of south-east corner of park shows north-south ridge and furrow and one possible platform. Serious deterioration since St Joseph aerial photographs.{7} The scheduling includes the remains of Shillingthorpe disserted medieval village, which take the form of a series of earthworks including house plots, hollow ways and cultivation remains. {10}{11} Aerial photography of c.2000 shows that the ridge and furrow remains no longer appear to survive as earthworks. {12}
