Full Description

AN IRON FOOTBRIDGE 368 FEET LONG, FIVE SPANS OF FIFTY FEET ONE OF THIRTY- EIGHT FEET, REACHED BY FLIGHTS OF STEPS FOURTEEN FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. A TYPICAL BRIDGE BUT WITH AN ATTRACTIVE DESIGN OF BRACES AND SPANDRELS OF UNUSUAL DESIGN. BUILT IN 1882 AS PART OF THE ALTERATIONS TO THE STATION LAYOUT, IT REPLACED A PREVIOUS FOOT LEVEL CROSSING, PROTECTED BY GATES AND WITH AN ADJACENT CROSSING KEEPERS COTTAGE, THE LATTER DEMOLISHED WHEN BRIDGE BUILT. BUILT BY THE GREAT NORTHERN AND GREAT EASTERN JOINT RAILWAY. {1}
