Full Description

THIS IS ONE OF THREE MAJOR IRON AGE SLATERN GROUPS, WHICH HAVE PRODUCED BRIQUTAGE. AT TF 25561717 (COW 32) - AN IRON AGE SALTERN SITE PRODUCING BRIQUETAGE FROM A SILTY AREA ON THE S FLANK OF THE RIVER WELLAND. 8 ANIMAL BONES ALSO FOUND. AT TF 25491726 (COW 33) - A DISCRETE AREA OF BRIQUETAGE AND 12 ANIMAL BONES ON A SLIGHTLY RAISED SILTY AREA. THE POTTERY FOUND IS UNUSUAL AND RESEMBLES EARLY BRONZE AGE FORMS. THE BRIQUETAGE WOULD SUGGEST IRON AGE DATE. AT TF 25491720 (COW 34) - ABUNDANT BRIQUTAGE WITH A VARIETY OF SUPPORTS AND OTHER OBJECTS. THE SITE IS ON AN ISLAND OF SILT WITH NUMEROUS PEAT-FILLED CHANNELS IN THE VICINITY. A SEMI-CIRCULAR PEATY CHANNEL DELIMITS THE SITE AT THE NORTH END, WHERE BRIQUTAGE IS MOST PREDOMINANT. A FEW BURNT STONE FRAGMENTS WERE PRESENT. {1}, AREA 0.09H, HTM 3M
