Full Description

Bronze key, found in 1963 in excavation for house foundations at Wayet Rd (north side). Length 19.5cm. Heraldic emblem on disc in handle, two lions combattant reguardant, double queued, imperially crowned. Approx corresponds to the supporter of arms of Northumbrian Ogle and Brownlow families. (Ogles and Brownlows had land in Pinchbeck). BM report 'key of type known as Chamberlains key. These keys of officials and functionaries were more widely used in Germany and Austria than this country, though examples are known from England. {1}
