Full Description

At the east end of north aisle of Holbeach Church is a late C14th, stone effigy of Sir Humphrey Littlebury, superintendant of works to Crowland Abbey, who lived at Penny Hill, Holbeach and who was probably slain in Wars of the Roses.{1}{2}{3} The published site is under crop, and the published moat (O.S. 25') completely obliterated. The farmer knows of no underlying building foundations nor of finds made here.{1} Site of Penny Hill Hall, formerly moated - home of Littlebury family.{4}
