Full Description

Domestic debris, including late C1st-C4th pottery, mainly colour-coated ware, seen at five sites over area of dark soil. Pottery was prolific at C. A small amount of baked clay was found at A, and a few evaporating vessel sherds at D. Farm labourers do not recall any archaeological finds at site, now under crop. There is no evidence of RB domestic sites.{1} SITES LIE AT 8-10 FT OD AT THE NORTH WEST LIMIT OF A WIDE SILTY SPREAD, DROPPING GRADUALLY SOUTH TO 7.5 FT AND SUDDENLY IN THE NORTH WEST TO LOW CLAYS. SHERD AND BONE SCATTER OVER VERY CONSPICUOUS AREA OF DARK CRUMBLY SOIL 'c'; LESSER SCATTERS OVER RATHER INDEFINITE PATCHES OF DARK SOIL 'a,b,c' EACH ON ITS OWN RAISED AREA, WHILE 'q' SKIRTS EAST OF SILTY PLATEAU STRETCHING EAST FROM 'c'. ALL SITES LATE C2-EARLY C3, 'q' PROBABLY INTO C4. {4}
