Full Description

The medieval settlement of Sutton St James stood around the church and the medieval cross, it survives to the present day. {1} There were 43 households in the parish in the early 18th century. {2} A sherd of late medieval pottery was recovered from an undated buried soil layer in August 2007, during the archaeological monitoring of groundworks for the Sutton St James Sewerage Scheme (PRN 20501a - TF 3975 1837).
