Full Description

Sutton Bridge Railway Station was opened in October 1862, and was closed to all traffic in 1965. The station was initially proposed in 1853 as part of the Norwich and Spalding Railway, but was not actually constructed until 1862, after the Great Northern Railway took control of the route. The station notably formed part of the larger Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line between Spalding and King's Lynn, after its formation in 1893. This part of the route was closed for passengers in March 1959, and closed to goods in April 1965, after which almost all of the station structures were eventually demolished. Structures at the station included two station offices, a station master's house, good sheds and workshops, a turntable and signal boxes. The platform shelters were built of brick and wood and featured wooden canopies. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
